Californian’s Dream
When we talk about California, prosperity and being wealthy in natural resources is the most obvious fame we ever knew. The Success and opportunity is something we can’t miss too. This is the reason why California is being successful not only in the union but also standing out among other nations. Romance and glamour, diversity of people and culture, salubrious climate are the additional flavor of being a Californian. Tourist attractions: Universal studio, Golden gate bridge, uncountable number of beautiful beaches and Hollywood are something pop up in my mind but I bet you will never finish counting those famous sports. Yes, California is beautiful enough to dream and have enough opportunity to come true as well. Author James J.Rawls even says that ‘the image if California as a land of perpetual sun’ (California: A place, a People, a Dream, 1986, Pg-2, p-4). It is absolutely true even after the gold rush, Platinum and other element rush, Californian turn silicon into gold some part of California called Silicon Valley. I think this is because of opportunity is success is more possible in this wonderful land called California.
If the success is measured by the growth of population, California is the most successful states in the union. Since the gold rush, people around the America gather in the state to discover their fortune. Even after gold rush, people keep growing in the state in order to find their dreams in this wonderful land. Asians, African Americans, Mid-west and Europeans migrated to California to discover gold, freedom of the human rights, to be wealthy and to be healthy and other different expectations. Promoters targeted Midwest to migrate to California till the great Depression. Many Midwest wanted to live in California due to freedom and promise of Human Rights (Denise S. Spooner). Author Denise S. Spooner remarks ‘Considering that change is the one constant in life’ (A New perspective on the Dream, Pg-2, p2). I think this is the reason why people looking for their new changes and moving around to fulfill their needs. Since 1962 California become the most populous state in the union. (James J.Rawls, 1986) And become the majority of economic, technology and business over Washington and Wall Street. James J.Rawls points that ‘If the valley were a nation, it would rank among the world’s twelfth largest economics’ (California: A place, a People, a Dream, 1986, Pg-1, p-2). I can’t even imagine what is in the dreams of Californian. May be too big for me to imagine in this moment. But I believe that one of the reason Californians’ dreams are being successful is they build up their dreams other than just hoping for the best.
Being a California and growing being as a minority not what we might not dream. Especially when your own group feel against what you love to do. Neighborhood and hobby is not a choice for us to choose because we love both. Author Jack Lopez’s article encourage reader to be what they want and be strong to stand on their rights but with convincible or peaceful way. Although I have never been into a saturation like him but I can figure how difficult to choose his friends or his hobby. According to his article, cholo might think Lopez is betraying to his people and trying to assimilate as white. That’s why he is picked. ‘How could someone be Mexican and dress like a surfer’ (Of Cholos and Surfers, Pg-5, p-4). Most youngsters’ racist just more or less I guess especially to his own kind.
Finally, I believe that dreams are fuel to the success but we need to work on our dreams to come true. Opportunity and resources play as important rows to be success but shouldn’t depend just on luck. Being big on environmental protection awareness and renewable energy is what Californians dreamed about and their dream came true in the end. The good thing about Californian is they dream very big and big enough to change the lifestyle of the world. With my best hope, Californian’s dreams lead to our best as usual.
